Terms of Reference (ToR) English Language Consultant – Kigutu International Academy (KIA) Contract Period: January 20, 2026 – December 31, 2026 Duty Station: Kigutu International Academy, Kigutu Reporting to: Head of School / Deputy Head of School 1.Background and Rationale Kigutu International Academy (KIA) is committed to providing high-quality, internationally aligned education that prioritizes academic excellence, holistic development, and global competitiveness. To strengthen English language proficiency and ensure students are adequately prepared for standardized assessments such as the SAT, KIA seeks to support English teachers and develop rigorous instructional strategies. To achieve these outcomes, KIA is hiring an English Language Consultant who will refine English instruction, support SAT preparation, and strengthen the pedagogical skills of teachers within the English Department. 2.Objective of the Consultancy To enhance English language instruction and strengthen SAT exam preparation through curriculum alignment, teacher coaching, resource development, and direct student support, thereby improving learning outcomes at KIA. 3.Scope of Work The Consultant will be responsible for the following: Curriculum and Instructional Support Align the English curriculum with SAT standards and international best practices. Develop SAT-focused instructional resources, assessments, and teaching strategies. Support teachers in integrating SAT reading, writing, and language skills into daily instruction. Deliver English lessons to support on-site instruction where required. Teacher Coaching and Professional Development Provide continuous coaching and mentoring to English teachers on instructional methodology, classroom practices, and SAT preparation. Facilitate a minimum of two professional development workshops focused on SAT strategies, assessment techniques, and pedagogical enhancement. Model effective teaching practices through demonstration lessons. Student Support Support English teachers in implementing targeted interventions for students. Assist students in developing reading comprehension, vocabulary, essay writing, and test-taking skills. Teaching Materials Development Curate and develop SAT-aligned lesson materials, practice exams, and classroom activities. Ensure all materials are adapted to the KIA learning environment. 4.Ethical Considerations and Safeguarding The Consultant shall comply with KIA’s safeguarding and child protection policies. They must uphold confidentiality, maintain professional conduct, and immediately report any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Officer or the Head of School. 5.Duration and Level of Effort Contract Duration: January 20, 2026 – December 31, 2026 The Consultant will work primarily on-site at KIA, with some flexibility for planning and preparation work. 6.Deliverables SAT-aligned curriculum adjustments and resource materials completed by March 2026. Monthly written progress reports submitted to the Head of School. Delivery of English lessons in collaboration with teachers. At least two professional development workshops for English teachers. A comprehensive End-of-Contract Evaluation Report. 7.Qualifications and Experience Master’s degree in English Language, Education, Linguistics, or related field. Minimum 3 years of English teaching experience, preferably in an international school. Demonstrated knowledge of SAT exam structure and preparation strategies. Strong communication, facilitation, and leadership skills. Experience developing teaching materials and conducting teacher training. 8.Capacity Building The Consultant will support sustainable capacity building within KIA by: Strengthening teacher skills in SAT preparation, assessment literacy, and instructional methodology. Providing teachers with practical tools and resources that can be used beyond the consultancy period. Encouraging peer-to-peer learning, collaboration, and reflective teaching practices. Enhancing the English department’s ability to independently prepare students for standardized assessments in the future. Supporting the establishment of systems for continuous monitoring of student progress in English and SAT readiness. 9.Timeline and Key Milestones Period Activity / Milestone January 2026: Onboarding, initial planning, needs assessment with English Department. February–March 2026: Curriculum alignment; development of SAT-focused materials; start of regular coaching sessions. March 2026: Submission of SAT-aligned curriculum and resource package. April–June 2026: Delivery of English lessons; ongoing coaching; first professional development workshop. July–September 2026: Continued teacher mentoring; refinement of assessments and materials; mid-term progress review. October 2026: Second professional development workshop; intensified student SAT preparation. November 2026: Final round of coaching sessions; preparation of end-of-year assessments. December 2026: Submission of End-of-Contract Evaluation Report and handover of all materials. 10.Budget and Resources Applicants must submit a financial proposal that includes: Consultancy fees (daily rate or monthly rate). Travel and accommodation costs, if applicable. Costs for materials, tools, or software needed to deliver the assignment. Any other relevant expenses required to complete the tasks. KIA will provide: Access to teaching materials and school resources. Workspace and administrative support. Accommodation at KIA (if applicable). Collaboration from the English Teaching Team and School Leadership. The final budget and resources will be negotiated based on the submitted financial proposal and KIA’s internal policies. 11.Reporting Requirements The Consultant will report directly to the Head of School / Deputy Head of School, providing: Monthly updates on progress, challenges, and recommendations. Copies of all training materials and SAT resources produced. A final comprehensive Evaluation Report that outlines achievements, gaps, and recommendations. 12.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Quality and relevance of SAT-aligned curriculum materials. Improvement in teacher instructional practices and feedback results. Evidence of student progress in English proficiency and SAT readiness. Effectiveness of delivered professional development sessions. Timely submission of required reports and deliverables.
