About the role
The Mobilizing Action for Meaningful, Empowered Beginnings for children (MaMEB) project is implemented in Kisumu, Nairobi and Turkana counties and aims to improve children’s learning and protection outcomes through collaborative efforts with parents, teachers, school leaders, community and religious leaders, and duty bearers. The project focuses on creating safe and supportive environments where children are empowered to understand and exercise their rights, develop essential skills, and grow into active, responsible and productive citizens
The project is planning a baseline assessment which is an internal learning and programme management exercise intended to establish a shared understanding of the initial situation at the start of the current implementation phase. It will utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess participants’ knowledge, attitudes and practices across the project’s thematic areas, and to gather in-depth insights to inform ongoing implementation processes. Research Assistants (RAs) will be involved in the collection of data across the three counties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection in accordance with established research methodologies.
Conducting interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys with project beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Transcribing qualitative data accurately and efficiently.
Organizing and managing collected data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Attend training workshop for Research Assistants
Maintaining clear and organized documentation of all research activities.
Participate in de-brief meetings after data collection
Protect all project equipment and ensure that they are all safe and accounted for
Perform any other duties assigned by the Research supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
University degree or diploma in Social Science or any relevant discipline
Proven experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection for research projects.
Have experience of carrying out In-depth Interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD)
Proficiency in transcription techniques
Good written and oral communication in English and Kiswahili.
Proficiency in local languages will be an added advantage
Excellent interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Have previous experience using Digital data collection platforms e.g. KOBO collect
Must be a local from the survey areas i.e., Nairobi (Mathare), Kisumu (Muhoroni) and Turkana (Lokichar)
Terms of Engagement:
Successful candidates will be engaged on short term contract terms during baseline evaluation.
