The starting salary package for this position is £65,656 GBP / approx. $88,600 USD including all allowances.
About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role:
Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work and actively manage and lead our teams of locally recruited staff to safely implement our life saving mine clearance and EOD projects. You must be willing to lead from the front, responsible for the day-to-day management of our technical teams and being involved in all aspects of MAG’s lifesaving work, including field delivery, systems implementation, representation of MAG to local communities and partners, operational planning and reporting. Capacity building, training, and people management are core areas of this role. Roles are in remote areas, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis.
About you:
You should be a qualified mine action professional with operational experience working in developing countries contaminated by remnants of conflict. You must have excellent people management skills with a proven track record of leading, motivating, and managing a diverse team of people. You will also have the ability to contribute technical knowledge and clearance targets to a range of audiences, including in proposals and reports, and demonstrate a proven track record of delivering training, mentoring and capacity building. Fluent written and spoken English language skills are essential, whilst Portuguese language skills would be advantageous.
About the Angola programme:
Following 23 years of peace and stability, Angola remains one of the most heavily mine-contaminated countries in the world. MAG has been active in Angola since 1994, clearing landmines and other explosive remnants of war. The programme currently operates in the east of Angola in Moxico, Moxico-East, Lunda Sul, and Lunda Norte provinces. Humanitarian mine clearance operations focus on Moxico, Moxico-East, and Lunda Sul, in some of the poorest and most marginalized communities in the country. Our aim is to improve the security and wellbeing of these communities by returning safe land for productive use, supporting community livelihoods, and assisting Angola’s compliance with its APMBC treaty obligations. We also deliver Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) projects across all four provinces in the east of Angola.
