Organizational Context and Role:
South Sudan faces one of the world’s most severe food security and nutrition crises. Persistent conflict and insecurity, recurrent landscape-changing flooding and largescale population displacement coincide with a protracted economic crisis, creating an environment of extreme uncertainty for millions of people. The conflict in neighbouring Sudan adds pressure, disrupting trade and threatening critical oil pipelines.
WFP provides live-saving emergency assistance in South Sudan while, at the same time, pursuing incremental gains in resilience, development and peace over multiple years and interrelated programme cycles, with the long-term ambition to reduce the need for humanitarian assistance by promoting self-reliance and resilience and strengthening national capacity and systems.
Based in the Vulnerability Analysis & Mapping (VAM) Unit in WFP’s Country Office in Juba, South Sudan, the incumbent will, under the supervision of the Head of VAM, contribute to the VAM evidence base that supports WFP’s food security policies and programming.
Purpose of the assignment:
To collect, manage, analyze and visualize food security data and explore related questions using quantitative methods, generating the evidence to inform effective food security programming and underpin advocacy efforts.
