Tearfund is looking for a WASH Project Coordinator (ECHO Grant) for its Central African Republic programme, based in Ndim, to play a vital role in delivering safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services to vulnerable communities. The role will contribute to Tearfund’s mission of following Jesus where the need is greatest, responding to crises, and partnering with local churches and community organisations to improve the health and well-being of those living in poverty.
The WASH Project Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing the operational and partner-facing teams in the project locations, ensuring the effective delivery of Tearfund’s WASH programme. S/he will be accountable to the Programme Director for programme management, financial oversight, and adherence to Tearfund policies and procedures. The role also involves representing Tearfund with partner organisations, local authorities, donors, NGOs, and UN agencies, and coordinating with consortium partners, including Plan International. The Project Coordinator will travel regularly across project sites in the Ndim Sub-prefecture.
Key accountabilities include, among others:
Lead the planning, management, and delivery of Tearfund’s WASH programme in Ndim Sub-prefecture, ensuring alignment with programme objectives and country strategy. Provide strategic and operational leadership to project staff, building high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, and promoting a positive work culture. Ensure financial accountability, including budgeting, procurement planning, expenditure monitoring, and reporting to donors and Tearfund management. Ensure programme compliance with donor requirements, Tearfund policies, and quality standards. Manage relationships with local authorities, partner organisations, NGOs, UN agencies, and community stakeholders. Promote learning, accountability, and participation of beneficiaries in programme design and delivery. Oversee health, safety, and security of the project team, including risk management and incident reporting. Provide coaching, mentoring, and pastoral support to project staff, including performance management and professional development.
To be successful, you’ll need the following:
BSc in WASH, Environmental Science, Water & Sanitation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent. A Master’s in a relevant sector is desirable. Extensive experience working with INGOs and local partners, including programme management in fragile or emergency contexts.Proven leadership experience, including managing teams, budgets, and operational planning.
Experience in finance, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, and donor compliance.Strong understanding of WASH approaches, including market-based sanitation and solid waste management.Experience with consortium or partnership management, advocacy, and working with government or private sector actors.Fluency in French and working knowledge of English.Commitment to Tearfund’s Christian beliefs and values, with the ability to provide spiritual leadership and pastoral support to staff.Willingness to travel regularly and live in basic conditions.
