In West Africa, Conciliation Resources’ work focuses on inclusion and addressing root causes of conflicts and is anchored in strong partnership and long-term accompaniment model. We are currently supporting cross-border, sub-national and community peace and governance initiatives and structures in Nigeria and the tri-border region of Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. We are committed to deepening our work and developing new streams of work that engage with the changing conflict and political landscape in a region where CR has supported peacebuilding work for over 20 years.

Job purpose

The Programme Officer provides project, administrative and logistical support necessary for the implementation of the programme. The post holder will play a key role in liaising with partners across the areas in which we work, and in managing programme events and information. They will support consults and volunteers working with the team. The post holder’s primary focus will be on our portfolio of projects focusing on strengthening local peacebuilding capacities in the tri-border region of Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, however may be required to offer assistance to our work in other parts of West Africa and Africa department as and when required. Reporting to the West Africa Programme Manager, the Programme Officer will be based in Accra and will undertake occasional travel within the region. They will work closely with the Africa department’s finance and operations manager and operations and compliance officer based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Person specification

Essential knowledge, skills and experience

• Understanding of and interest in peacebuilding and conflict transformation processes.
• Strong organisational skills including planning, developing, implementing and maintaining administrative systems.
• Project management skills including planning, implementing and monitoring project activities, and strong financial and narrative reporting skills.
• Experience in supporting financial management of projects and programmes, including
• preparing budgets, monitoring organisational and partner expenditure and supporting financial reporting to donors and for internal purposes.
• Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.
• Experience remotely supporting teams and partners on the successful joint delivery of work.
• Willingness to work irregular hours occasionally and to undertake some international travel.
• Strong commitment to, and experience of, team and cross-organisational working.
• Appreciation of issues of confidentiality, and cross-cultural and political sensitivity.
• Initiative, enthusiasm and a problem-solving approach to new challenges.
• Excellent written and spoken English and French.
• Right to live and work in Ghana
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages and Google applications (Gmail and Google Docs) in a Mac environment,

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

• Knowledge of local languages relevant to the West Africa programme contexts is an added advantage (e.g. Birifor, Dagbani, Dagaare, Dioula/Jula, Gonja, Hausa, Lobi, Mooré, Peul/Fula).
• Experience in institutional fundraising, including development of project proposals and budgets in response to closed and open calls.
• Experience supporting partners on the successful joint delivery of work and accompanying partners with limited organisational (financial and management) capacities.
• Experience of undertaking supervised research work and drafting substantive reports.
• Ability and willingness to travel to areas affected by conflict.
• Completed hostile environment training in the past 3 years, of willingness to undertake hostile environment training.
