Development Expertise Lab (DEL) is a research and consulting firm in international development. DEL specializes in data collection, data analysis and research activities in developing countries.
In the framework of an assignment to update Sierra Leone’s national Child Poverty Report using the 2025/26 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) data, DEL is assembling its project team and is looking to recruit a Sierra Leone-based national expert to support the multidimensional and monetary child poverty analysis, capacity-building activities and reporting deliverables. The assignment involves close collaboration with Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) and other national counterparts. The national expert will work alongside DEL’s international team members and will support engagement with Government counterparts and other in-country stakeholders.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Advanced university degree (Master’s level or higher) in statistics, economics, demography, data science, social policy, public policy, development economics, public finance, monitoring and evaluation, social sciences or a related field
At least five years of experience analysing household survey microdata, including MICS, Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), household income and expenditure surveys, living standards surveys or comparable datasets
At least five years of relevant experience supporting poverty analysis, child rights research, social policy analysis, public finance for children, monitoring and evaluation, or stakeholder consultation processes
Advanced proficiency in STATA, R or comparable statistical software, including survey-weighted analysis and reproducible coding
Knowledge of Sierra Leone’s poverty, child rights, social protection, education, health, nutrition, WASH, disability, gender, public finance or local governance context is strongly desirable
Based in Sierra Leone
Excellent written and spoken English; fluency in Krio or other relevant local languages is an asset, particularly for stakeholder consultations at national and subnational levels
Excellent analytical, research, synthesis and report-writing skills
Strong communication, facilitation and relationship-management skills, and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team within agreed timelines
