Vacancy: Programmes Manager
Location: Nairobi with frequent travel
Reporting to: Executive Director
Salary Range (Monthly): 250,000-270,000
Contract: One year, with a possibility of renewal
PURPOSE:
To manage the day to day implementation and management of programmes and resource mobilisation for the Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW).
CONTEXT:
Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) is a Kenyan women’s rights organisation founded on human rights and feminist principles, that seeks to promote women’s rights. COVAW works towards a society free from all forms of violence against women and girls.
COVAW Strategic Plan 2024-2028 focuses on four strategic areas, which are:
Mitigation, prevention and response to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV);
Access to comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services
Access to justice (legal, climate, economic and gender justice).

COVAW’s current programmes address sexual and gender-based violence, including harmful traditional practices, technology-facilitated GBV, promote disability rights and mental health, enhance access to sexual reproductive health rights and climate justice. Additionally, we focus on access to justice and movement-building work.
The Programmes Manager must understand how this role impacts the success of these programmes and the long-term financial stability of the institution.
KEY OUTPUTS
Inputs to the development of COVAW strategy and objectives
Planning and budgeting for programmes
Ensuring the development, implementation and monitoring of programmes
Preparing progress reports for decision-making by COVAW and external stakeholders
With the Executive Director, implement the resource mobilisation strategy
Coordinating seamless training sessions, including the availability of venues and training materials
Implementing fund raising strategy
Overseeing baseline surveys, and internal and external project surveys in implementation areas
Representing COVAW in meetings with donors and key COVAW partners
The Programmes Manager will be expected to;

RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Executive Director
Member of the Senior Management Team
Has established strong working relationships with colleagues, especially Programme Officers
Has established excellent networks and working relationships with external stakeholders, including donors and other stakeholders
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
The job demands implicitly taking a view of the risks and odds against a shifting background and the jobholder will be expected to step beyond the boundary of readily available answers to find solutions.
Required qualifications and competencies
A master’s degree in law, or human rights.
Advocate of the High Court with 8+ years demonstrated experience working in international humanitarian law, human rights law, justice and accountability or criminal law.
Minimum 8 years’ experience representing vulnerable individuals in legal aid services and working on cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
Demonstrated experience in a similar programme management position, including planning, design, M&E, and budget management.
Strong time management and organisational skills.
Experience in working in a diverse team and with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Excellent negotiation skills
Excellent communication skills
Fluency in speaking and writing in English and Kiswahili
Very good interpersonal skills
Monitoring, evaluation and learning skills
