This is a 12-month regional mandate for Oxfam in Africa based in Senegal or Ghana
The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in 12 countries and 3 regions over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in developing countries in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable development initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything we do.
Here’s what your daily life will look like:
In close collaboration with Oxfam’s Climate justice team members, you will be responsible to:
• Facilitate collaboration among diverse organizations, networks, women groups, alliances and individuals to align advocacy goals and strategies towards climate justice, ensuring that marginalized communities’ voices are heard and prioritized.
• Lead the planning, development, and execution of advocacy campaigns aimed at addressing climate change through a lens of justice, equity, and inclusion.
• Support in movement-building activities through identification of feminist movements, groups and organizations involved in strategic climate justice initiatives, mutual priorities, and opportunities for collaboration.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of communication materials to increase the visibility of climate justice initiatives.
• Help in organizing press conferences, publishing articles, media briefings, and other activities aimed at raising awareness about climate justice issues.
For this mandate you must:
• Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada;
• Have university or a master’s degree in environmental studies, international development, political science, social sciences, human rights, or a related field.;
• Have 2 to 3 years of experience in climate justice, environmental advocacy, or related fields,
• Experience in coordination, movement building, campaign coordination, or community organizing, particularly in the context of climate justice;
• Be fluent in English, spoken and written (required);
• Master the Microsoft Office suite.
What we offer:
• Monthly allowance for living expenses.
ï€ 20% increase in living allowance for an accompanying child (maximum of 2 children).
ï€1,500$ CAN per year/per child for schooling.
• Monthly amount for rent;
• Round trip flight with 2 checked luggages;
ï€ Round trip flight for accompanying child(ren).
• 200$ CAD for additional luggage;
• Advantageous medical insurance for you and the accompanying child(ren);
• A volunteer support program during your mandate and up to two months after your return to Canada;
• vacation and other holidays;
• Access to various training courses (E-Learning, etc.);
