Overall Purpose of the Role
The Director of Program Delivery will oversee the implementation of diverse thematic programs, ensuring that each is delivered on time, on scope, within budget, and to high-quality standards. The role supports adaptive program management and a data-driven approach, while fostering collaboration among Program Managers, technical experts, and field teams. The Director will also contribute to strategic planning, donor engagement, and internal capacity strengthening to ensure the organization’s mission of sustainably lifting communities out of poverty is achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership in Program Delivery
Provide delivery-focused insights that inform strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational priorities.
Support program design, proposal development, and engagement with donors and partners.
Ensure implementation across thematic areas (Nutrition, Livelihoods, WASH, etc.) aligns with technical standards and best practices.
Lead development and review of program reports to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with organizational learning.
Promote a results-oriented and accountable culture across program teams.
Supervise and mentor Program Managers responsible for individual thematic portfolios.
High-Quality Program Implementation
Ensure all programs are implemented in compliance with donor and internal requirements.
Lead timely and quality implementation across thematic programs, resolving field-level issues promptly.
Monitor implementation progress, budget adherence, and operational performance.
Facilitate internal coordination across departments and ensure cost-effective delivery approaches.
Ensure full adherence to safeguarding, ethics, and data protection standards in all program activities.
Maintain compliance with donor policies and contractual obligations.
Support effective risk management across all implementation areas.
Program Management and Learning
Strengthen the use of technology and tools to manage field activities and performance.
Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) and Research teams to ensure program decisions are evidence-based.
Apply research, learning, and real-time data to continuously improve program outcomes.
Promote adaptive management principles, ensuring flexibility in implementation and responsiveness to community needs.
External Engagement and Partnership Management
Represent the organization in donor, government, and partner forums as needed.
Cultivate and manage relationships with stakeholders to support program delivery and sustainability.
Contribute to consortia and multi-partner platforms in line with program objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in international development, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field.
Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Program DPro) is an added advantage.
Minimum 10 years of experience in managing multi-sectoral development programs, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven ability to lead teams and manage programs across thematic areas such as Nutrition, Livelihoods, WASH, and Gender.
Experience working in field-based contexts and managing complex donor-funded initiatives.
Strong command of program management systems, MEL integration, and adaptive programming.
Familiarity with Kenya or similar operational contexts, including ASAL regions, is desirable.
