UN Women, formally known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, was established in 2010 to accelerate progress on meeting the needs of women and girls worldwide. It also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality, ensuring that commitments on paper lead to real change for women and girls.
UN Women operates across numerous African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, and many others, focusing on empowering women and promoting gender equality.
UN Women runs several key programs such as the HeForShe campaign, the UNiTE to End Violence against Women initiative, and various leadership and economic empowerment programs tailored to the needs of women in different regions.
UN Women has significantly impacted policy formulation and implementation across various countries, leading to improved legal frameworks and increased participation of women in political and economic spheres.
