Leading the way in climate action for cities worldwide
C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, commonly referred to as C40, is a network of the world’s megacities committed to addressing climate change. Founded in 2005, C40 supports cities to collaborate effectively, share knowledge, and drive meaningful, measurable, and sustainable action on climate change. The organization connects more than 90 of the world’s greatest cities, representing over 700 million people and one-quarter of the global economy.
C40 focuses on tackling climate change and driving urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, well-being, and economic opportunities of urban citizens. The organization works with city leaders to deliver on the most ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement at the local level, as well as to clean the air we breathe.
C40 operates in numerous cities across Africa, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lagos, Nairobi, and Accra, among others.
C40 offers various programs such as the Climate Action Planning Program, which supports cities in developing and implementing climate action plans. The organization also provides opportunities for cities to engage in peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing through workshops, webinars, and conferences. C40 is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce and regularly seeks passionate individuals to join their mission-driven team.
C40 has been instrumental in driving significant climate action in cities worldwide. The organization has facilitated the implementation of over 14,000 climate actions across its member cities. Through its efforts, C40 has helped cities reduce their carbon footprints, improve air quality, and enhance the resilience of urban environments to climate impacts.
