Introduction
World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a Canadian international development and refugee sponsoring non-profit organization. Present in over 25 countries, we improve education, employment, and empowerment opportunities for young people around the world. We work with a unique and powerful network of post-secondary institutions, private sectors partners, and volunteers to fulfill our mission and vision of creating a world where all young people can grow up in safe, secure, and supportive environments; where they can learn, work, and play a vital role in their country’s development.
A central component of WUSC’s strategic plan is to expand durable solutions for refugees. For decades, WUSC has connected non-traditional actors, such as postsecondary institutions, students, staff and faculty, with opportunities to sponsor refugees and support their inclusion in Canadian communities. WUSC is selecting students for sponsorship to the US and Canada under two programs, namely Welcome Corps on Campus (WCC)and the Student Refugee Program (SRP) respectively. The students are selected from the refugee communities in Dadaab and Kakuma Refugee Camps as well as those in the Urban settings.
WUSC is seeking a young, enthusiastic person to assist in a part time capacity as a consultant.
Background of the Complementary Pathways in WUSC
WUSC is running educational complementary pathway programs for the refugee youths (18-25 years). This opportunity offers resettlement and higher education opportunities to both the US and Canada under two programs; Welcome Corps on Campus (WCC) and Student Refugee Program (SRP) respectively.
The Student Refugee Program (SRP) is one of WUSC’s flagship complementary pathways program that has been operating for more than 40 years. The SRP combines resettlement with opportunities for higher education in Canada. Globally, the SRP sponsors over 150 refugee students per year through active partnerships with over 100 Canadian university, college, and CEGEP campuses.
The Welcome Corps on Campus (WCC) is a newer program having started in June 2023. WUSC does the student selection and departure preparation process for students to attend Universities in the United States. Similar to SRP, the students under WCC also receive permanent residency in the US. The WCC is a 3 year pilot program with incremental numbers of students selected each year from Kenya.
