IRC opened the national program in Mali in 2012. Our programs range from humanitarian assistance to early recovery activities, focusing on child protection, education, economic well-being, nutrition, health, water and sanitation, and governance. We work in the north, the center, and the south of Mali. Conflict and drought have caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people in Mali and neighboring countries. The security situation in the north remains fragile. Nonetheless, the needs of internally displaced persons and conflict-affected host communities are still pressing, and the issue of humanitarian access is an ongoing process.Â

Under the responsibility of the Country Director (CD), based in the IRC country office, the National Nutrition Advocacy Coordinator will lead IRC’s policy, advocacy, and communication work to create systemic change in nutrition policy in the country. Globally, approximately 52 million children are currently suffering from acute malnutrition, with the global food crisis and climate change threatening to increase cases imminently. To reduce child mortality, access to treatment for acute malnutrition must be increased.Â

IRC seeks to support policy development, planning, and implementation of malnutrition treatment at scale to increase access to treatment. The National Nutrition Advocacy Coordinator will lead the implementation of this initiative at the national level by building the foundation for an emerging partnership on malnutrition treatment.

Major responsibilities:Â
Â
Analyze the national nutrition policy contextÂ
• Analyze national and decentralized nutrition policies, stakeholders, influencers, and decision-makers focusing on wasting.Â
Develop and begin implementing a targeted strategy to advance practice and policy changes toward treating wasting at scale, including simplified approaches, at the national and decentralized levels.
• Formulate context-specific demands and recommendations.
• Identify targets and key stakeholders to advance policy recommendations.
• Identify working groups and other key forums to which IRC belongs or should belong.
• Identify and gather information, tools, and products to support advocacy efforts.
Â
Foster knowledge management systems and engage in internal learning and coordination within IRC.Â
• Document and share useful tools, presentations, analyses, good practices, and lessons learned and exchange learnings with other nutrition policy technical advisors in different country offices.
• Collect, analyze, and synthesize data documenting the process and barriers to national scale-up of wasting treatment, focusing on the policy environment.

Job Requirements:Â
Â
• At least seven years of global health or humanitarian policy, advocacy, or research experience is required.
• At least three years of health or nutrition policy, advocacy, research adoption, or communication required.
• Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, public policy, or another closely related field strongly preferred
• Demonstrable technical understanding of nutrition and/or public health
• Previous experience working directly with Ministry of Health stakeholders and with national partners and civil society organizations.
• Experience in advocacy with national policies strongly preferred
• Communication expertise: demonstrated ability to develop materials and presentations for external audiences.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with multiple and diverse audiences; you listen carefully and actively to all audiences; your communications are direct, simple, and respectful.
• Strong negotiation, influencing, and networking skills.
