Director – South Africa Full Time Senior level

The position 
The Regional Director will serve as a thought leader, team builder, partnership manager, and network manager at large. The Director will help develop priorities for the region according to Ashoka Africa OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and will help position Ashoka Southern Africa as an ecosystem influencer, a convener of leading Social Entrepreneurs, and a social impact leader.
As a Regional Director, your main tasks will be to:

• Develop and implement a strategy for Ashoka Southern Africa, aligned with the Africa Diamond and Global organization strategy (including Fellow selection, fellowship, collective dynamics such as education and changemaker skills, corporate partnerships, fundraising, communications and ACN)
• Build and develop a strong, agile, efficient and globally connected team that understands EACH, accountability, open communications, strategic partnerships and fundraising
• Ensure fundraising and financial health of Ashoka in the region: fundraise all revenues needed for the region, cost control and revenue planning
• Develop and lead the Youth Year program to offer young people an opportunity to engage and flourish as changemakers (Youth lead)
• Ensure compliance in operations: legal entity and governance, contracts, labor compliance, financial compliance and reporting
• Develop organizational policies that comply with local regulations but respect Ashoka Global culture to create a collaborative and transparent work environment
• Support the Ashoka South Africa Board of Trustees and manage required administration relevant to Board Meetings and specific tasks which the Board of Trustees may call for
• Ensure team well-being and coaching/ promotion of team members
• Contribute to the Africa and International Ashoka strategy and ensure high level of commitment of the local office into the international network
• Increase awareness about Ashoka, social entrepreneurs, and the EACH framework through strategic partnerships with changemakers from a variety of fields: media, academia, business, citizen sector, etc.
• Represent and position Ashoka, social entrepreneurship and changemaking in South Africa and the Southern Africa countries

The Southern Africa Director will report directly to the Africa Diamond Leader.

Desired profile:

• Deep commitment to supporting social entrepreneurship and changemaking in the region
• Relevant management abilities and experience, with a minimum of 10 year of work experience
• Entrepreneurial mindset with proven commitment to innovation and big change
• Ability to work from strategy to implementation
• Familiarity with legal, finance and policy requirements in South Africa
• Ability to interact and work with people of various cultural and professional background
• Ethical fibre
• Fluency in English, written and verbal
• Fluency in at least one other South African language a plus
