Position: Head of Humanitarian Access and Safety
Place: Sudan – based in Geneina, West Darfur with travel to other Darfur states, Port Sudan and other TGH operating areas in Sudan, and regular transit through N’djamena, Chad.
Duration: 10 months, from November 2024 (renewable based on availability of funds)
Conditions: Salaried contract, monthly gross salary of €2 369 to €2884 €, monthly per diem of €750 , 100% medical coverage + repatriation insurance + provident insurance, accommodation, international and local transport for the duration of the assignment, break every 3 months. Non family duty station.

Founded in 1994, TGH is a French international solidarity organization based in Lyon. The association designs and implements emergency, rehabilitation and development programs in the following sectors: water, hygiene and sanitation, civil engineering, food security and rural development, socio-educational and psychosocial. TGH is currently operating in 10 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Presentation of the mission
TGH has a long-standing presence in Sudan: first implementing a multi-sectoral program targeting displaced people and host communities in Geneina (West Darfur) in 2004, it extended its presence to Central Darfur (Bendasi and Um Dukhun) in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Since then, TGH has maintained a continuous presence in both states, despite an increasingly complex context, while also intervening in South Kordofan, Khartoum, Gedaref, Al-Jazeera, Sennar and Red Sea states.
Since the outbreak of the current Sudan conflict in April 2023, creating the largest displacement population in the world at current time, TGH has developed multi-sectoral projects in consortium with other international NGOs to meet the needs of crisis-affected populations in Darfur, Khartoum and elsewhere. TGH has more than 100 national staff in the field, based in Geneina & Foro Baranga (West Darfur), Golo, Um Dukhun, Bendasi, and Zalingei (Central Darfur), Tawila, (North Darfur), and Port Sudan (Red Sea). It has more than 12 expats based in Sudan & Chad.

Job description
Under the supervision of the Country Director, the main responsibilities of the Head of Access and Safety are as follows:
The Head of Access and Safety is expected to visit all offices on a regular basis in order to develop better knowledge of the context in each of TGH’s areas of operation, review relevant processes and procedures, and work with managers to make improvements for the safety of staff.
The Head of Access and Safety will focus primarily on the Sudan context/s but will provide support for TGH staff in Chad working on cross-border activities for Sudan humanitarian activities.
The Head of Access and Safety will be managing the national staff Humanitarian Access & Safety Manager.

Safety, working and living conditions
The position is based in West Darfur with travel to other TGH field locations within Sudan. Accommodation will be provided at TGH guesthouse with basic standards (cold water, occasional electricity disruptions, limited telephone network and internet coverage). Social life is possible but limited for security reasons.
Conditions in Geneina and elsewhere in Sudan present risks that are known and controlled by TGH and other international NGOs operating there.
