Principal Advisor (m/f/d) to the African Union Trade and Industry Commissioner Full Time

• Provide strategic advice to the Commissioner´s Office on the completion of Phase 1 of the AfCFTA negotiations and the conduct of Phase 2
• Support the establishment of the AfCFTA interim and permanent secretariat
• Render strategic advice for the development and implementation of AfCFTA transitional work programme
• Provide strategic advice for the development and implementation of AfCFTA supportive policies and institutions, including the AU Trade Observatory and the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF)
• Provide advice on industry and stakeholder identification, dialogue, and consensus-building activities
• Collaborate with the AfCFTA support unit, the AfCFTA interim and permanent secretariat and staff of the AU department of trade and industry
• Represent the Office of the Commissioner of Trade and Industry at meetings, events and functions as designated representative
• Prepare policy briefs, papers, statements, speeches and political communication on the AfCFTA and other relevant trade and industry issues as required by the Commissioner.

• Master´s degree in International Trade, Trade Law, Public Policy, Public Administration or other relevant post graduate Degree
• Longstanding work experience in trade policy, including a deep knowledge of African trade issues and African regional integration
• Experience in providing support to senior level executives as well as in handling high level meetings and engagements
• Familiarity with and experience in African Union policy frameworks, institutions and processes relevant to the trade and industry agenda
• Excellent management and interpersonal skills, high flexibility and capacity to work under pressure
• Ability to work under minimal supervision, be proactive, take initiative, with sound judgment and maintain confidentiality at all times
• Sound analytical skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-national environment
• Fluent written and oral communications in English and French

The position is based in Addis Abeba. The Ethiopian capital has a moderate, sub-tropical highland climate. The city has a diverse community, thus offering a wide variety of amenities, international restaurants and cultural activities. Addis Abeba has a German school as well as various international schools. Basic medical care is provided by local and international hospitals.
