The UN Human Settlements Programme, known as UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for sustainable urban development, working to create socially and environmentally sound towns and cities with adequate shelter for all, focusing on inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and resilience against challenges like climate change and housing crises through policy, research, and technical assistance. Established from the 1976 Habitat I conference, it serves as the UN’s focal point for urbanization, promoting transformative change to build better urban futures globally, as outlined in the New Urban Agenda.
