WaterAid West Africa regional strategy, approved in April 2018, aims to contribute to reaching Everyone, Everywhere by 2030 with safe water, adequate sanitation and good hygiene (WASH) by achieving a step-change in sector performance by influencing decision-makers to recognize that WASH is central to the development of the region. To deliver our ambitious agenda, WaterAid requires strong, effective communications to help drive the change we want to see. Our communications and media work aims to amplify our messages to end the WASH crisis, building awareness and knowledge amongst all those who can help deliver our vision.
The Regional Communications Manager in WaterAid, West Africa will be responsible for creating and leading a regional communications strategy that focuses on and maximises key moments to influence – such as key pieces of WaterAid research, national elections, international days, conferences etc to elevate attention to the water, sanitation and hygiene crisis in West Africa and internationally. The role will identify which communications channels are most likely to reach the target audience and maximise impact through effective messaging and timing. This work will help WaterAid achieve its mission of bringing safe water, safe sanitation and good hygiene to everyone everywhere in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6.
The post holder will ensure that communications work across the region is an effective strand of our advocacy strategy, that potential to elevate attention to water, sanitation and hygiene is maximised, and is built into all programme and advocacy initiatives from the outset across the region, through working closely with teams and key actors across West Africa and beyond. The post holder will be responsible for driving higher profile and more effective media engagement, and coordinating social media and digital work with the objective of building awareness of the issues of water, sanitation and hygiene and WaterAid’s role in helping to deliver SDG 6.
