The Republic of Chad faces significant development challenges owing to its geographical position and difficult agro-climatic conditions. The regions of Borkou, Ennedi and Tibesti are affected by a variety of factors that make them especially vulnerable: lifestyle (nomadism), an extremely dry climate, land mines, high levels of poverty and poor infrastructure. Municipalities in the north – particularly in Faya-Largeau, the regional centre of the northern region – are currently faced with the major challenge of providing urgently needed basic services, a task that is being made more difficult by a lack of resources, limited capacities and insufficient experience in public administration. In the areas of drinking water, sanitation and health in particular, the municipality is struggling to fulfil its role. The project supports the municipality in increasing access to drinking water, sanitation and basic services and sustainably improving the living conditions of the population.
You will be based in Faya. Medical care and supplies of everyday goods in Faya are limited.
Chad is currently a CTO (compensated time-off) location, with the special conditions (not suitable for families) and privileges (additional leave) this involves. The security situation in most of the project region is tense. Occasional restrictions on personal mobility should be expected.
The security situation is very tense. Security precautions are in place for GIZ staff working on the ground. These and all other GIZ security measures must be observed at all times. Please ensure that you are fully aware of the country-specific information issued by the German Federal Foreign Office. Further information on Chad is available on the country information portal of the Academy for International Cooperation (AIZ).
Regular business trips to the project regions are envisaged in compliance with the security regulations. Regular overnight stays in the capital N’Djaména are also envisaged.
