Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
Description of task
Under the direct supervision of Chief HIV/AIDS Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Sustaining mobile HIV and AIDS awareness and Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing (VCCT) services: liaison and functioning of Mission outstation HIV and AIDS VCCT Centers, throughout the Mission area;
Support the day to day functioning of the unit: administrative and logistics related tasks, i.e. procurement, production, receipts and inspection, issues and inventory management of training materials/packages including other Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials;
Support the Unit in the development and implementation of HIV Social and behavior change communication strategies
Opening and maintenance of mini-HIV&AIDS libraries at the assigned area;
Organizing, facilitating and conducting of HIV and AIDS Training of Peer Educators (TOPE),
Conducting training of HIV&AIDS Counselors and to offer VCCT services;
Ensuring Mission sustained condom accessibility and replenishments in line with the developed Mission condoms supply strategy;
Creating and maintaining of database for HIV and AIDS course graduates and participants of HIV and AIDS awareness sessions including networking and liaison;
Compiling weekly, monthly and quarterly reports;
Support HIV and aids national response by providing technical assistance to the national HIV programme with a focus on conflicts and post conflicts HIV mainstreaming;
Providing technical support to Members and Contingent Commanding Officers for implementation of sustained HIV and AIDS programme;
Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Chief HIV/AIDS Officer or delegated authority.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education – Additional Comments:
Public Health, Medicine and Clinical Science, Sociology, Education or its equivalent; possession of a certificate/diploma in teaching/training; and/or qualification as an HIV&AIDS trainer/counselor will be an asset.
Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:
A minimum of tree (3) years of progressively responsible experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or related area is required.
Excellent capacity to transfer knowledge and skills to a wide range of different target groups including members of the Uniformed Services and or Armed groups;
Trained and qualified in HIV&AIDS training and/or counseling, or demonstrate attitude to undertake training during the assignment under the guidance of the Head of the Unit an added advantage;
Sound knowledge of and practice in report writing, documentation and presentation;
Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;
Sound security awareness.
