The Global Programme Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector is part of the One World – No Hunger Initiative launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The aim is to introduce innovations in the agriculture and food sector to increase the incomes of smallholders, create employment opportunities and improve regional food supplies. This is intended to raise the productivity of small family farms that grow staple foods and to reduce inefficiencies. The Global Programme works in 14 countries. In Nigeria it focuses on three fields of activity: local innovation systems, skills development and sustainable agricultural business. The programme works together with partners from the state, the private sector and civil society to implement tried-and-tested, economically viable innovations in the rice, maize, cassava and potato value chains. The global project “Promoting agricultural financing for agrarian-based rural enterprises” aims to develop and implement needs-based financial services for agricultural and agribusiness enterprises in rural areas. The implementing partners are the rural and branch organizations as well as public and private service providers in the agricultural and financial sector.
